Do you want to clear clutter but you tell yourself you cant organize? There are many reasons we tell ourselves we cant clear clutter in our homes and lives.  Lets get rid of the idea that we cant get rid of clutter.

I was hiking up a steep trail and as I looked at the top I knew that was where I wanted to be but it looked so high and so far away. I knew where I needed/wanted to be and I knew how to get thereby placing one foot in front of another and keep on walking. It didnt matter how fast or slow I went as long as I kept on I would get there.

After assessing where I was going the thing that helped was that I looked down on the trail and took one step at a time instead of thinking of how far I had to go with each step. This is how it is when we organize. We assess the room or the project and we break it down into small chunks. This makes getting rid of clutter fun and not so daunting.

Have you told yourself you cant get clutter under control because you dont know where to start?  Pick a room that bothers you the most and do an assessment of what works and what doesnt work for you in the room. Then start working systematically left to right, right to left, from the doorway, in a corner; it doesnt matter, the important thing when getting rid of clutter is to START.

Do you tell yourself the problem is that the kids are home and they are the ones who create clutter? Teach your children how to get rid of clutter. The problem could be that they have too many toys, clothes, collections and not places to put them. Help them sort through what they are going to keep and get them containers so everything has a home.

If you think it takes a lot of money before you can get rid of clutter it just isnt true. Use containers you have around your home before buying new ones. Get rid of things you dont like any more, dont have a use for, or no longer need. This will actually save you money.

Another obstacle you may imagine to getting rid of clutter is that you think it will take you too long. Using a timer set it for 15 minutes and take one drawer at a time to organize. As you continue to clear clutter you can work in longer periods of time but start slow and with small projects.

If you feel organizing clutter is too overwhelming take baby steps. Just like hiking a steep hill, do it a little at a time, keeping the big picture in mind but breaking it into small areas and projects.

Do you use the excuse that you cant get rid clutter because you like everything you have and there isnt anything you can let go of? Start by packing away some items so you can enjoy your other items as there will be more room for them. Rotate items in and out about every three months. Analyze every object you have and see how it makes you feel. You may be surprised how easy it will be for you to let go.

There is no right way or wrong way to organize. As you get rid of clutter it becomes easier as clutter holds you back. If things arent exactly the way you want them to be you can always change the way you at first organized them.
